KALMIA Series 1 - Kiel's Story: Hotelier Of Mine (Chapter 2)

CHAPTER 2:

“WELCOME, Ms. Mar-Aann Janihim. Thank you for booking to JAC Hotel. Your room is in 57th floor, it is a grand executive suite. Here’s Oliver to help you with your languages. Please, enjoy your stay,” magalang na bati sa kanya ng receptionist na nag-asikaso para sa booking niya. “Would you like have a tour to see other amenities, Ma’am?”
“No need, Ms. Monet, thank you for helping me. Ako na lang mismo ang maglilibot while I am bored,” sabi niya dito na ikinatungo naman nito.
“If you need any help just dial ‘0’ and we will try everything to help,” sabi pa nito.
She then turned around at nakita niya ang gwapong bellboy na naghihintay sa kanya. What she liked about the hotels in the Philippines ay gwapo at magaganda talaga ang inilalagay nila sa harapan. “Well then, Oliver, lead the way,” sabi niya dito.
“Sure, Ms. Janihim.”
“Call me, Aann,” she then gave him her signature smile and she almost laughed dahil medyo natulala ang bellboy na nasa harapan niya.
“S-sige po, Aann, this way po,” sabi naman nito ng matauhan. She said na mag-rerelax lang siya once she arrived in the Philippines pero she really can’t help but to flirt...a little.
Lumakad na sila patungo sa hotel. She decided na mamaya-maya na lang siya maglilibot sa hotel to check on the amenities. First, she just wanted to relax and sleep dahi mahaba-haba ang binyahe niya and plus the fact na dumiretso siya sa airport matapos niyang magtrabaho. As soon as the elevator door opens ay may napansin na kaagad siya as Louise Margaret but she didn’t voice it out. She remained silent hanggang sa makarating silang 57th floor. Her eyebrows raised dahil she really were trying hard not to say anything.
“Ms. Aann, we are here,” maya-maya ay sabi ni Oliver sa kanya at binuksan na ang automatic door at hinayaan lang na nakabukas hanggang sa makapasok siya sa loob. She roamed her eyes around her room ng magsalita ulit si Oliver. “Would you like any help to unpack, Ms. Aann?”
“Please,” maikling sabi niya lang dito at dumiretso sa bintana to open.
“Sige po, tatawagan ko lang po ang resident housekeeper,” yun lang at mabilis na lumabas ito at nagtawag ng taong mag-unpack ng mga gamit niya.
May veranda rin ito na nakatingin sa maingay at abalang kalsada ng Makati City. She quickly closed the window at dumiretso sa pinaka-higaan niya. She smiled dahil may nakita siyang lavender sa ibabaw ng kama niya. She walked to the side of the bed and picked the flower. She place the flower on her bedside and then looked around.
She smiled at lumakad na siya papunta sa bag niya to grab a couple of money bill to give them a tip dahil napaka-helpful nito.
“Maraming salamat ha? And I am sorry kung ito lang ang maiibibigay ko.”
“Naku, marami na po ito. Maraming salamat po ulit, sige po aalis na po kami para makapagpahinga na po kayo,” sabi naman ni Oliver at umalis na ang mga ito.
“I like the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff but I really don’t like how this hotel can be a little bit under decorated,” maya-maya ay sabi niya sa sarili at hinayaan ang sarili na mahulog sa napakalambot na kama. She closed her eyes and was about to sleep ng mag-ring ang cellphone niya. “Hello?”
“Good…afternoon, Ms. Arevallo! Kamusta naman ang JAC Hotel?” bati sa kanya ni Samantha.
“Oh, I like the hotel exce—,”
“Oh no! Aann, please lang, hindi ka si Louise Margaret diyan. Restrain yourself from pointing out things,” if nasa harap niya si Samantha ngayon ay alam niyang napatampal ito sa noo. Sam knew her so much.
“I can’t help it, Sam! I am a hotel critique, I look for the good and bad points of one hotel!”
“Kaya ka di nagkaka-love life eh kasi you take your job to heart na kahit na nasa bakasyon ka you are still a hotel critique and not a guest! Stop it, Aann, at baka maka-receive ako ng call mula sa iyo telling me to find a new place to stay!”
“Well, if worse comes to worst then I might phone you,” natatawang turan niya.
“I knew it!” ma-dramang turan pa nito na ikinatawa niya lalo. “But…ano ba ang ayaw mo sa hotel na iyan? You just arrived at may nakita ka na kaagad.”
“Oh, nothing much, it’s just that under decorated ang hotel. No mural or painting inside the elevator. Wala ring elevator girl, I mean, for a five star hotel wala man lang silang elevator girl. My bellboy, Oliv—.”
“Gwapo?” putol nito sa kanya. Napa-rolleyes siya. Sam really wanted her to have a love life.
“May itsura but he almost fainted when I smiled at him so I don’t like him,” sabi naman niya. “Okay, let’s focus on the bad points.”
“No, I just asked kasi na-curious ako but you should focus on getting some beauty sleep and start being a guest and not a hotel critique. Please lang, Aann, enjoy and relax on your vacation,” sabi naman nito and she can hear her pleading voice. She sighed and nodded.
“Okay, fine, I’ll enjoy my vacation. Sige na at matutulog na muna ako, Masyado akong napagod sa biyahe eh.”
“Malamang! Dumiretso ba daw sa airport instead of having a nap. O siya, bruha, enjoy!” sabi nito and ended the call. She then stare at the ceiling and sighed again before sleeping.

“DADDY Sean, wala pa rin po bang Louise Margaret Arevallo na dumating dito sa banda?” Nakakunot-noong turan ni Kiel sa Tito Sean niya. Lahat ng ka-brod ng Daddy niya sa JESTER Brotherhood ay tinatawag nilang lahat na Daddy dahil sa sobrang magkaka-close ng mga ito at maging silang mga anak ay tinuring na nila ang bawat isa na parte ng kanya-kanyang pamilya.
“Yes, Kiel, I even asked sa ibang airport kung may dumating under that name but no one. Are you sure na tama ang nakuha niyong week date para sa pagdating ni Ms. Arevallo? What if it’s just a rumour?” kalmadong turan ng Daddy Sean niya sa kanya.
“Well, our researcher read the news all over internet and I trust my employee,” sabi niya at napabuntong hininga. “Daddy Sean, please call me if ever dumating si Ms. Arevallo sa Pilipinas,” pagpapatuloy niya.
“Sure, Kiel, I’ll definitely phone you. Now, if you please, I need to have a meeting with Maurice,” pagpapaalam nito sa kanya.
He was walking in the hallway papunta sa mga amenities just to check kung lahat ay nasa ayos. It’s his duty to walk around the hotel and check if everything is fine from his staff to the guest. Bahay-work-bahay lang naman ang ginagawa niya since noon pa plus of course his daily dose of his friends crazy personality. It sounded boring for a twenty-eight years old bachelor but his happy with his lifestyle at ayaw niya rin namang ma-disappoint ang daddy niya, even though, he knows na proud na proud ito sa kanya.
Wala siyang girlfriend right now and for him it’s wonderful. Walang kahati ang oras niya sa trabaho to please a lady kahit na nga ba ang mga kababaihan mismo ang nagtatapon ng sarili papunta sa kanya. His not a playboy, definitely, dahil pinalaki siya ng mommy niya na rumerespeto sa mga babae and his dad told him not to play with a women’s heart dahil nakakatakot ang karma. He knows the story of his dad and his dad’s brods love story dahil na rin bidang-bida ang mga ito sa kanya-kanyang love story. They were one of the sooth-after bachelors’ nung kapanahunan ng mga ito but he can’t imagine kapag nasa harap na nila ang mga ito. After all, all of his dads were still madly in love with their wives and his envious.
He wanted to meet someone like her mom. The lady that will make him happy for the rest of his lives pero sa ngayon ay magpapakabusy muna siya sa trabaho. His still young to settle down and definitely not when his father’s thinking of giving the whole business to him.
“Ms. Janihim, I am really sorry. Yung staff po kasi na nakakuha ng order niyo ay bago lang and still in the middle of training. Would you like refreshments while the chefs are in the middle of preparing your order?” boses ng isa sa mga manager niya ang nakakuha ng attention niya.
“Don’t bother with the refreshments dahil meron pa naman akong iniinom but…would it be alright if magpakuha ako ng latest hotel magazine dito?” maganda ang boses ni Ms. Janihim and it sounded like a music in his ears.
He saw the panic face of the his manager but he just smiled at doon naman parang na-relax ito.
“Mr. Cristobal, you don’t have to worry because I handled it already.”
“Good job, Ms. Quintal,” sabi niya and walked towards the side of the guest chair. “Good evening, Ms. Janihim, I am Kiel Cristobal and I am the son’s owner of this Hotel. I would like to properly apologise for my staff mistake. I overheard earlier na bagong staff ang nakakuha ng order mo but would you like to tell me what really happened?” tanong niya sa babaeng busy na sa pagkalikot sa tablet nito.
She didn’t say anything for a minute dahil busy ito sa ginagawa. He was about to leave in a bad mood dahil sa rudeness nito ng lumingon ito sa kanya and smiled. “Nice meeting you, Mr. Kiel Cristobal. I am Mar-Aann Janihim and I am staying in one of  your Grand executive suite. I just arrived earlier and decided to get some rest before going down to eat. Nakita kong pleasing ang menu niyo dito sa Italian restaurant so I decided to eat here,” panimula nito sa kanya. “Well before I continue, would you like to sit down first dahil medyo nangangalay ang leeg ko.”
“Oh! Sorry about that, Ms. Janihim, and thank you,” sabi niya dito at umupo na sa tabi niya. Somehow, it was a like his whole brain froze for a second dahil sa magandang mukha ng dalaga. “Please continue,” sabi niya ulit dito.
“Before I continue, please don’t make the new guy leave or resign. Everyone deserves a second chance at sinabi na rin ng manager niyo na bago itong employee,” panimula ulit ito.
“Don’t worry, Ms. Janihim, we are not some kind of boss na mababasa or mapapanood mo sa movie na masama and will dismiss every employee na nagkamali. If we did that then wala na kaming staff. Sometimes, people need to do wrong things para mas magpursigi silang magtrabaho ng maayos,” sabi nito and gave the lady his one of his signature smiles.
“That’s good to hear, Mr. Cristobal, so what was I saying again? Ahh! Jasper, the new employee took my order wrongly. Hindi kasi ako nakain ng products with wheat dahil allergy ako so I told him to ask the chef for a wheat-free pasta pero nung bumalik ito to serve my pasta ay nalaman kong ordinary pasta iyon. I was a bit disappointed so medyo, nasabihan ko siya then your manager walked towards me and handled everything. I must say, I was impressed by her, she’s a good asset to your hotels,” sabi pa nito sa kanya.
“Well, Thank you for complementing one of our excellent staff,” sabi niya at tumayo na rin ng makita niya sa gilid ng mata niya na papalapit na si Ms. Quintal. “And sorry again for the inconvenience, Ms. Janihim, I’ll talk to the chef para mas mapadali ang pag-order ng pasta niyo. I shall excuse myself, then,” yun lang at lumakad na ito paalis.
“Oh! Mr. Cristobal, next time don’t give me the kind of smile you just did earlier, baka magsisi ka,” sabi nito and wink at him. He just smiled and turn around. Looks like may weirdo na naman silang guest.
Lumakad siya papuntang staff and say one of the other manager. “Make sure to please Ms. Janihim in any possible way. The first time I saw her, she screams trouble. I can’t let trouble be in our way once Ms. Arevallo arrive. If worse comes to worst, call me,” sabi niya pa dito and entered the kitchen.
“Chef Vance, is that the right order for Jasper’s table?”
“Yes, Kiel, It’s almost done. Nagluto kasi ako ulit just to make sure everythings all right,” sabi ng mixed blood na chef na nakilala niya nung nag-aaral siya sa ibang bansa.
“Good. I don’t want to hear any complaints to that weird guest, ever again,” sabi niya at tinapik ang balikat ng batang chef.

“No problem, Kiel,” yun lang at tumawag na ito ng server para sa kakatapos lang na pasta ni Ms. Janihim.
